What is Whiz Kids?

Whiz Kids is a faith-based mentoring program serving inner-city students who will benefit the most from a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult.

How are "Whiz Kids" selected?

The children are selected by their teachers as being “at risk”, meaning they are not reading on grade level. These are bright kids who just need the attention and love of a caring adult willing to give them a future of hope. More than 85% of the children we serve from Oklahoma City Linwood Elementary School are Hispanic and many times English is not spoken in the home and certainly not read.

When are the tutoring times?

Quail Springs UMC partners with Linwood UMC to provide tutors and resources. We meet on Tuesdays from 2:30pm to 5:00pm during the ten month Oklahoma City Public School Calendar year. We observe OKC’s School Calendar which includes Fall, Winter and Spring Break.

Where does Quail Springs UMC serve?

The Linwood/Quail Springs UMC site for Whiz Kids serves 32 children at Linwood Elementary who are waiting, wanting and needing a caring adult to offer them hope for their future through Whiz Kids.

Please consider serving as a tutor or substitute tutor, as necessary. Click here to learn more about Whiz Kids Oklahoma.
